Our Wellness Workshops
Working long hours sitting at a desk, repetitive physical actions and dealing with stress can all have a negative impact on our health. Our workshops show your team how to decrease stress and pain at work, improving productivity and mental wellbeing.
Stress Reducing Art
Creating art is a very effective way to stimulate the mind and anyone can do it. We use watercolours in our corporate workshops, bringing all materials to you. Art is a relaxing and rewarding hobby that can lower stress levels and lead to an overall improment in wellbeing. Creating art can take your mind off life’s many stresses, at least momentarily. It clears some head space and allows one to focus on the good in life.
Breath Work is a buzzword right now, but what is it, and how does it work? Breath work involves consciously using our breath to create a positive effect on our body. How we breathe sends signals to our brain and has a direct effect on our physical, mental and emotional health. Benefits of breath work include; improved focus, reduction in stress and anxiety, better sleep, increased energy, deepened connection, supercharged creativity and enhanced performance.
Introduction to Yoga
There is a saying that ‘sitting is the new smoking’. The current estimates from www.hse.gov.uk suggest that stress, depression or anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders accounted for the majority of days lost due to work-related ill health, 17.9 million and 8.9 million respectively. Our yoga poses are specifically chosen to benefit the desk worker and can be performed wearing comfortable work attire. The yoga sequence taught will be aimed at reducing tension in area of the spine impacted by long hours sitting or standing.
Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts, describes Mindfulness as “awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” Many of us live our lives on autopilot, not aware of what we are experiencing; missing out on all the sights, sounds, smells, connections and joys we could appreciate. Mindfulness helps us be present in our lives and gives us some control over our reactions and repetitive thought patterns. It helps us pause, get a clearer picture of a situation, and respond more skillfully.

Arleen is a qualified Yoga instructor and founder of Chiropractic 1st in York. With her background as a Chiropractor for 20 years she brings a wealth of knowledge about the importance of a healthy spine and nervous system.
Rachel is a qualified teacher with a passion for learning and sharing. She has been successfully running Art Classes and Workshops in North Yorkshire for the past 5 years and is the founder and driving force behind Art in a Box.
